Ski Top
This was a busy week at work, so I did not get in my mid-week cache, however, I did get in one over this past weekend. Since it is not winter time and I knew the ski areas were not in use, I thought it would be a good time to grab ‘Ski Top’ as there would not be an abundance of muggles around.
I was able to drive part way up Pinacle Mountain on the service road and then pulled off in a field next to the last house on the road. Off I went up the 1.5 mile trek up the mountain, which was an easy hike as the trail is also the maintenance road for the ski top and the lift mechanisms at the top. The cache was an easy find once I reached the top.
While I was there, I had to scrambling for cover as a late afternoon shower popped up and the rains started to fall – fortunately there was not thunder/lighting, so hiding under a tall pine was OK and its thick boughs kept me dry. The shower was soon over and the sun poked back out, however the temperature started to drop. When I left to begin this adventure, it was 71F – I checked the temp on my weather station when I got home and it had dropped to 55F during the time I was on the mountain.
I tried another cache that was also located on this mountain, however, the areas were all posted and I was unable to find a way to get to the cache location without crossing posted land. I am thinking the owner of this property may have posted it to keep folks out due to the damage of trees from Ice Storm of last December – you could see the destruction of the trees. There were many trees and branches still hung up in other trees that had not fallen to the ground.
It was a great day for a hike and another geocaching adventure!
