Long Hurricane Season

Published by mpaulin at 1:00 pm under history, weather Edit This

Hurricane season in the Atlantic basin runs from June 1 through November 30th.  Most hurricane activity is concentrated in the mid-August to late September time frame.  However, on this day in 2006, the 2005 hurricane season extended into 2006 when Tropical Storm Zeta reached its maximum sustained winds of 65 mph for the 2nd time.  This tropical storm was never a threat to land, it just churned away in the central Atlantic waters.  This was the 27th named storm for the 2005 season.  (from the historical archives of the Weather Channel)

A little weather folklore for this month:  Ancient Africans believed that people who were struck by lightning had incurred the wrath of the gods.  These lightning strikes were considered bolts of justice.
